The first articles in the field of economics were published in 1978 in the Annals of “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galați – Fascicle I. Socio-Humanistic Sciences (ISSN 1220-0753), addressing the main economic challenges of the 1980s. These contributions reflected the research of the faculty members involved in the courses Economics and Structuring of Economic Units. Given the geographical location of the university, the studies focused primarily on the naval industry (shipbuilding), agriculture, and fishing.

In 1994, the Fascicle became an independent journal entitled Management, Economy and Socio-Humanistic Sciences (ISSN 1221-4647). During this period, the number of contributing authors increased, and the journal’s scope expanded, offering detailed analyses of social, economic, and political transformations in Romania, while also reflecting regional specificities.

In 1995, the journal changed its name to Annals of “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galați – Fascicle I. Economics (ISSN 1224-9351).

Since 2003, the journal has been published under its current name, Economics and Applied Informatics (Print ISSN 1584-0409, Online ISSN 2344-441X), while retaining the designation of Fascicle I. This change reflected the expansion of the Faculty of Economics, the increased qualifications of its academic staff, and the diversification of teaching and research activities, aligned with the demands of the regional labor market.

The journal’s reputation has grown steadily, supported by a rigorous peer-review process and the contributions of distinguished researchers. Since 2007, the scientific coordination and management of the journal have been entrusted to the Research Centre for Development Strategies of Competitive Economic Systems – STRATEC. Since then, the journal has actively promoted the results of national and international research projects, connecting the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration with a wider network of academic and applied research activities.

In 2009, the journal received a B+ rating from CNCSIS, a rating granted to journals indexed in international databases in their field.
